Shadow’s
story
Shadow is a 6 year old Arabian gelding. He arrived at
the Bethany Pappani Endurance Training center Feb 2006. He was a rescue horse,
apparently unridable due to extreme back problems. Shadow
was also underweight and his feet were out of balance.
One front was high on the inside, the other high on the
outside, jamming in all hairlines of the coronet band
on all four feet etc.
Shadow’s rehabilitation
program
Shadow was also put on a sensible nutrition program.
He was free fed quality grass hay & given a large
flake of 4-way pasture mix in the evening. He was fed
a bucket once a day consisting of beet pulp shreds, wheat
bran & crimped oats, mixed with Forco* probiotic,
a good hoof/joint supplement, Shen Calmer* (an herbal
supplement prescribed by Dr. Elizabeth Wilbur) & corn
oil. (Plus plenty of carrots!)
Shadow was also treated by Equine body worker, Gesa
Brinks as well as Elizabeth Wilbur, D.V.M., a specialist
in veterinary acupuncture. His back problems quickly
improved. Elfta Hilzman balanced his feet, in a way
only she can! Elfta is widely considered one of the
best farriers in the country and highly sought after.
Shadow was given 30 days of ground work, concentrating
on poles & cavelleti to strengthen his back. After
60 days Shadow was going down the trail. After 90 days
training and rehabilitaion, Shadow has found a home
and job with a prominent endurance family here in Southern
California! Look out you Pacific South riders!
